BIOGRAPHY
You could say MAGGY ROBERTS’ career is rather unusual. Born in 1986 in Aix-en-Provence in France, her family moved to a town in Indiana when she was two, because of her father’s work. This is where she was schooled in English at the elementary level . When her family moved to St-Sauveur in the Laurentians, a few years later, she had to learn, once again, French at school.
At the age of three, little MAGGY was already a big fan of the Blues Brothers and especially Tina Turner. This is due, perhaps, to her mother who listened to a lot of blues during the time they lived in the United States. This drove her to set up stage productions in the family room, allowing her to wear wigs and costumes she created using a pair of scissors to cut fringes into her mother’s dressing gowns and, above all, giving her the opportunity to sing … with a hairbrush. The girl was definitely talented! Or so her parents soon noticed, offering her the opportunity to take singing lessons.
She took them when her family moved to Montreal. While MAGGY began her studies at Villa Maria High School, a private school for girls, a decision that would change her life much more quickly than she had imagined was made. Upon completing her Secondary 4 (her junior year in high school), the person giving her singing lessons offered her the chance to work for a few months at Walt Disney ... in Japan! Having previously worked for this American Empire on several occasions, the person MAGGY describes as her “fairy godmother” had several contacts from who benefitted the girl, who had to convince her parents – and school – to let her go. This was accepted under the condition she continued her studies by correspondence.
MAGGY, therefore, found herself in this Japanese country, accompanied by two other Canadian singers, performing in Mickey’s World for about 2 months and a half. An incredible opportunity that allowed her to learn a lot about her trade, using a lot of discipline which is the honor and reputation of the Japanese. Upon her return to Quebec, she made a decision: school was out and music was in! She quickly found a place in a musical group, consisting of five singers and four musicians, in a corporate show featuring disco music and hits from the ‘80s. Another great opportunity which allowed MAGGY the chance to tour the world for a year – a year she will never forget. But touring with the group began to weigh heavily for the girl who had but one dream: to perform on a big stage all by herself, showing how gutsy she is.
During the last few years, MAGGY ROBERTS has gone back and forth to France. Thanks to her godfather’s, the well-known French singer, Christian Delagrange, wise advice, she has had the opportunity to perform in many cabarets in Belgium and in France, including the reputed Chez ma cousine in Montmartre. And, when MAGGY was passing through Quebec, it was the singer, Nancy Martinez, who gave her a helping hand by inviting her to be the opening act for a few of her shows.
After her notable appearances in a few French television shows, destiny smiled upon MAGGY once again when a friend sent in an application – without warning her – for a new show on the popular T.V. channel IDF1, “Vous avez du talent (You’ve got talent)”, for which votes were tabulated by both television and Internet viewers. With the song “LET ME DREAM”, MAGGY ROBERTS landed in second place. Now it is Canada’s turn to discover this guaranteed hit.
